Alright, finally got this one done. Apologies for a second delay since I promised a March 10th release in an earlier post. That said, it may have worked out in your favor since I spent the 11th flying to the east coast for spring break and made almost a dozen more puzzles during that trip. Now this pack is about double the size of what it was originally planned to be. Incidentally, the donation I mentioned a couple weeks ago requested Statue Park; that right there was the first time I decided to increase the size beyond my original intentions.
Download the pack (PDF; 657 KB)
This pack contains
- The rules, a walkthrough for an example, and a long list of strategies for Statue Park
- 8 puzzles using a Tetromino bank, all 7 by 7
- 8 puzzles using a Double Tetromino bank, all 10 by 10
- 4 puzzles using a “Battlesquares” bank, all 10 by 10
- 8 puzzles using a subset of the Pentomino bank, all 10 by 10
- 8 puzzles using the full Pentomino bank, all 12 by 12
- 4 puzzles using wackier, unique banks
- A large puzzle using a full Hexomino bank (35 shapes)
- 4 puzzles in a “Contributed” section, with one by detuned, one by Serkan Yurekli, and two by mathgrant
- Hints and solutions for all puzzles (with the exception of no hints for the contributed puzzles)
That’s 45 total puzzles. Bit more than that 20-25 minimum I said I’d guarantee each pack. No variations, and no labelled clues even, but I don’t think I needed to do any of those.
Version 2 uploaded on March 15, 2012 10:48 AM EDT. Fixes some minor typos and a uniqueness error at the very end of II.41. Thanks to Aaron and Nils Miehe for notifying me of these issues.
Like with the first pack, I tried my best to find and fix errors of any kind, but it wouldn’t surprise me if some slipped through again. Please let me know of any glitches you find, either through a comment here or an email to palmermebane -at- gmail -dot- com. Updates will be announced in this post.

Hmm, I’m finding that the difficulty level grew much more quickly than the difficulty level of the slitherlink puzzle pack. For example, I thought puzzle 7 was already quite hard (Instead of the break-in in the hints, I (rot13)ybbxrq ng gur gjb fvqrf naq abgrq gung pbzovarq gurl tvir n Y naq n M.)

That bit of logic you found is actually the intended solution; the hint is supposed to lead up to that. (EDIT LATER: On second thought, all that stuff is not actually needed to figure out what those two givens have to be… I’ll consider rewriting the hint in the next upload.)
Relative to the slitherlink pack, I think the easier puzzles are not as easy but the hardest puzzles are not quite as hard.

Know the properties of the shape bank. For instance, the only three pentominoes that have four blocks in a line are the I, L, and N.
You mean Y.

I do, don’t I? I’ll fix that in the next upload.

For those of you printing these out, you may want to print II.C3 twice; it was specially designed to throw solvers for a loop. 🙂

Since nobody seems to have figured out what this comment means, puzzle II.C3 can also be solved as a Masyu.

Just a suggestion: Could you put these Melons on the Wednesday puzzles too? (for difficulty indicators)

I’ve been solving too many Tapa puzzles. Automatically crossing out the fourth cell after colouring 3 cells in a 2×2 square. without that they are going well so far.

Contrary to my comments on facebook, I’ve found time to go through these, mainly as a result of me being too unwell to do anything that I need to do 😛 Some wonderful puzzles so far, have done some 13 of the Tetrominoes, 6 of the pentominoes, and the 4 made by the other authors. Its been a fun few hours. Thanks to all 4 of you. Will hopefully be able to save the rest for the holidays like I hoped. 😉

I’m having a lot of fun with these so far, thanks!
I’m surprised that noone has mentioned that II.13 obviously non-unique when placing the last shape.

It’s not obvious to me. You’re referring to the piece that doesn’t use any of the black circles, right? If you placed the other nine pieces as the solution in the back has them there’s no other way to do the last one…

Oops, yes, I was “standing on the hose” as the Germans say. Sorry.

[…] one also solves as a Masyu is not indicated anywhere in the pack. You need to have a look at the comments […]
