This is a Multi-Ouroboros puzzle.

I’ve toyed around with Snake plenty already, particularly the classic style with row/column clues, but I never got anything I wanted to put up here until now.

Fun, though it doesn’t feel that much like the few Snake puzzles I’ve solved (mathgrant’s I think).

Did you consider a facing rule, i.e., the head of one snake has to “look toward” the tail of the snake it bites?

I was thinking of mathgrant’s Spirits of the Serpentine (Hebi-Ichigo), which is clearly (now) not what you meant by “Snake”. It does feel closer to the crocopuzzle Schlange puzzles, which I guess is the type that shows up at WPC.

      • MellowMelon Says:

Right, I was going more for the WPC concept. The facing rule is basically saying the snake has to go straight at the given numbered segments, which is not really in the spirit of Snake puzzles.

Great new puzzle. despite the snake references and restrictions, it certainly solves more like a tapa puzzle (black cells connected, no 2X2 (or snaking back on itself), and numbers referencing the number of the 8 adjoining cells that are blackened). You have the additional restrictions as to the single line connected nature of the snake path, and the length between “heads;” but you also have less info as to the 8 adjoining blackened cells (total number as compared to breakdown of surrounding groups).

Its all good, was enjoyable to solve and I welcome even more Mellow Melon takes on this new puzzle or tapas variation.

The following /might/ constitute a spoiler, if you are very uptight about your definition of spoilers.

Is the answer in this particular puzzle intended to look like a creature? It totally looks like a certain creature to me.

    • MellowMelon Says:

Doesn’t look much like a creature to me. The best guess I have for what you are thinking is a dog wagging its tail with its front legs down, and this is a stretch.

Also, I don’t mind spoilers in the comments, so don’t worry about that.
