I love Mondays because, though I like a challenge, I also like to not feel like an idiot. A quick diversion, but it’s a good thing to have easier versions of your harder puzzle types on the site, so I was pleased to see a Monday Akari Ex.

Didn’t this originally have a comment regarding the unusual pairing of Monday and Akari-EX, or is that another post somewhere? In any case, it seemed like some kind of hint, and piqued my interest a few days ago.. Finally getting around to trying it out, I hit the yellow 4, and was struck by the unusually redundant yellow 0, then thought to check the other corner..

‘Ah, cool, the zeroes.. Oh wait, all the numbers… Holy cow, the colors..!’ What a feat, especially given the asymmetric, varied solve.

This post went up shortly after this puzzle from detuned: http://blogs.warwick.ac.uk/tcollyer/entry/friday_puzzles_34/

The strange part is that this puzzle was conceived and constructed before I saw that one. Although long before that I had seen mathgrant do the same thing with Masyu.

I believe the comment you’re referring was on a Tuesday with all green numbers, where mathgrant noted (probably correctly) that the green numbers are more difficult to make use of.

Finally, I think it would be harder to pull this off and make the puzzle solve symmetrically. The green and yellow clues have such different meanings. So that shouldn’t have been too much of a surprise.

Ah, it was 201 I was thinking of.. I got mixed up with the new-to-me puzzle types. All the same, I really like this one’s aesthetic.

I didn’t expect a symmetric solve, it just got me thinking about how many basic puzzle types with such closely mirrored givens would unavoidably end up with a doubled half-solution, and this one is nice in that out of such regularity can arise a ‘normal’ puzzle.. Thanks!
