Puzzle 44 (Castle Wall)

This is a Castle Wall puzzle.

Puzzle 44

The goal here was to make a puzzle where you had to pay more attention to the colors of the clues. In the previous ones, you can just put segments or walls between two clues that are a knight’s move away depending on whether they are a different color or not and then forget the colors knowing things have to work out in the end. In this one, the color configuration is critical to making progress later on.

I have not tried this puzzle yet, but wanted to comment on the colors. (I had not read your comment on this puzzle when I just now wrote my comment on your previous Castle Wall puzzle) It actually seemed to me I did do more with the colors than just the knight’s move (and the clues one step away from the edge) in the last puzzle. In particular, I remember drawing a line between two black clues based on numbers in the clues, and realizing I had to draw another line through the only remaining path between them.

Point taken; that and the knight’s move logic are the most common ways of using the colors for sure. They’re both local in nature though, and if I recall the best way to solve this one involved a bit more global thinking with them.
